Living Independently at Home

Christies Care is a family owned and run live-in care agency, established in 1987. A CQC registered agency; it has grown through word-of-mouth recommendations from satisfied clients and carers.

Christies Care’s system is straightforward; we recruit very good carers, train them well, and they work hard to give our clients the support they need to stay as independent as possible, at home.

We focus on making sure that our clients have the carers they want and need, when they want and need them. This focus comes from our personal experience: at last count, ten people in the company have needed live-in carers for family and friends, so we know what it’s like (the photograph on the right is the chairman’s mother, with her carer, Renata).

“Many thanks for all your care and attention, I am quite sure that Sandra’s care and thoughtfulness got him back on his feet far quicker than he would have otherwise, he is now very chirpy and has a new lease of life. For that we are very grateful.”

Christies Care covers the whole of the UK, and has a network of 13 local area advisors, who visit clients and carers, whenever they want, to assess risks, review progress and keep in touch (we don’t charge for these visits).

Our carers receive some of the the most intensive and extensive training in the industry; two weeks residential training on everything from continence management to in-depth dementia training, followed by distance learning and assessment.

Experience and attributes required: To be a good carer, you must be compassionate and want to make other people’s lives better. You must be fluent in English, be able to cook and ideally be able to drive. The most important thing is attitude. You don’t need experience, just a caring nature.

Typical assignment: Your client may be young, old, physically disabled or have a mental illness; may live alone or with their spouse. Whoever it is, you are expected to care for them, living-in, seven days a week for as long as you and your client want (anything from two weeks upwards).

Training and support given: All carers get two weeks residential training, which surpasses the standards set out by our regulators.

All new carers get the Care Certificate.

Carers have their own support team, who give them 24 hour telephone support and advice. They are also visited at work, for face-to-face support and advice.
